Theodore - ONE month

Theo,

One month ago today my life changed forever. I met you. It's been the most wonderful, emotional, exhausting month of my life. I've never been so tired but I have also never been so happy. I look at your sweet face and I am so amazed that you came from me. You are such a perfect mix of your Daddy and I.

Here are some things about you at one month:

You weigh 8 pounds 14 ounces and you are 20,5 inches long. That puts you in the 23rd percentile for weight and 14th percentile for height. You are perfectly healthy and growing well!

Breastfeeding is going great and you are gaining weight like a champ! You nurse every 2-3 hours.

You sleep 2-5 hour stretches at night. Your longest stretch is right after we put you to bed for the night. Daddy gives you a bath (which you love!), we nurse and then you usually sleep for about 4 hours. You are such a loud sleeper and you grunt all night long.

You are wearing newborn sized clothes and diapers. You are fitting into some 0-3 month clothes, which is good because I didn't buy enough of the itty-bitty stuff.

You love going for walks in the stroller or baby bjorn, bath time with Daddy, music, sleeping on someone, your swing and eating.

You don't like having your diaper changed, having to wait for food and being cold.

We took you on your first road trip this week. We went to Sedona and Flagstaff with Mormor. You were so, so good and we just loved having you come along with us. It was much cooler in Flagstaff and we were able to take you on your first hike. You slept in the baby bjorn the whole time.

You are so much fun lately. We've been seeing more smiles, you are cooing and you make lots of eye contact. It's like you are all of a sudden a real baby and not a newborn any more.

We've been calling you "the professor" because you are such a serious baby. You have a constant scowl on your face and a wrinkle on your forehead. But at the same time I think you are the most expressive baby I have ever met. You have so many different facial expressions. It will be so fun to see how your personality develops.

You are still a curly newborn ball and we just love snuggling with you.

Sweet boy, I hope that you will always know how much I love you.

Love, Mamma

Theodore - THREE weeks

Theo,
You are THREE weeks old today! I've said it every week, but I can't believe how fast this is going. You are growing up so fast...

Here are some things about you in your third week of life:

You are so expressive and vocal. I don't think I have ever met a newborn with as many facial expressions as you. It cracks us up. My favorite is your scowl and your pirate face. You are so cute.

Nursing is still going really well. I was going to write that it's becoming less painful, but then I developed mastitis yesterday. Ouch!

You have been a little fussier in the evenings this last week. Your cry sounds more like a growl and you have been fairly easy to console so far.

I think you must have gone through a growth spurt this week, because for two days all you wanted to do was eat nonstop. I think I must have nursed you 13 times on Wednesday!

Mormor has been here this week and you have been loving all the snuggles and kisses.

You have been making much more eye contact this week. You have such a serious look when you stare into our eyes. I often wonder what you are thinking.

Sometimes when you are tired, you grab your hair and pull until it makes you cry. It's the saddest and funniest thing ever. We have to pry your hand open while you scream at the top of your lungs.

You love music and it calms you down right away. I sing "Soro Lillemann" to you every night and it's definitely your favorite.

So far you are a really good sleeper. You have been sleeping at least one 4-5 hour stretch every night this week. I am so thankful for some extra sleep.

Today is my very first Mother's Day and I still can't believe that I get to be your Mommy. You are such a sweet little boy and I can't wait to see the person you will become. You made me a Mamma and I will forver be thankful for that. I spent my first Mother's Day sick at home, but it's ok because it meant lots and lots of snuggles with you. I love you so much my sweet boy.

Love, Mamma

Theodore - TWO weeks

Theo,
You are TWO weeks today. These first two weeks just flew by and I can't believe you are half ways to ONE month.

Here are some things you've been up to in your second week of life:

You are still a great eater.  We are nursing every 1,5 to 3 hours around the clock.

At your 10-day doctors appointment you were 7 pounds. Way to grow, Theo! We love your pediatrician, Dr. Barcellona. He is so awesome!

You are sleeping a little better and you no longer need to be held to sleep. We've been alternating between the stroller bassinet and your swing at night. You wake up to nurse and go right back to sleep when you're done. You even gave me a 4 hour stretch twice in this last week and it was heavenly.

You have been so much more alert this week. You are usually awake for two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening. It's so fun to see your eyes and you've been making lots of eye contact with us.

Your favorite toy is a soft fold out book from Uncle Robert and you just love staring at it.

I read a couple books to you this week. It was such a special moment for me. I so hope that you learn to love books as much as I do.

We had lots of outings this week; your Mamma was starting to get cabin fever! We went to Target, Buy Buy Baby, the grocery store, the post office, out to lunch and out to dinner twice. You slept through it all.

Wherever you go, people comment on your hair! It is so long and thick. You have a little bit of a mullet going on though, so you might be getting a little trim soon.

We still can't decide who you look like. I think you're just a good mix of your Mamma and Daddy. You have your Daddy's eyes and feet and you have your Mamma's lips, cheeks and hair. We have no idea where that cute little nose came from.

Auntie Elise was here at the beginning of the week and Uncle Jonathan and Auntie Casey came for the weekend. You were so spoiled with lots of love.

You are still such a good little baby. You hardly fuss and you're just a happy and content little guy. I so hope that this continues. We love you so much sweet boy.

Love, Mamma

Theodore - ONE week

I will be doing weekly updates for the first four weeks, and then monthly baby updates after that. I'm still catching up over here, but this was written at one week.

--------------------------------------

Theo,
You are ONE week old today. It's hard to believe that it's already been a week, but at the same time it's hard to believe it's only been a week. You are such a good baby, and your Daddy and I can't believe that you are ours. I want you to know how lucky you are to have so many people who love you and are excited to meet you. In your first month of life you will meet all of your Grandparents and your Aunts and Uncles.

Here are some things about your first week of life:

We spent two nights in the hospital after your arrival. Your Daddy stayed by our side the entire time and it was such a special time for our new little family.

You are a great eater. We are nursing every 1.5 to 3 hours. I don't love breastfeeding yet, but I am so happy to be able to provide you with important nutrients.

You amazed the pediatrician because you were already back to your birth weight at your 5-day check-up. You are perfectly healthy and growing.

You sleep for at least 20 hours a day, we have barely even seen your eyes open this last week. You prefer to be held while sleeping, which means very little sleep for your Mamma. But it's ok, I love holding you and feeling your warm body.

You never cry. You whine a little bit, but I think we've only heard you cry twice.

You had two outings; for newborn photos and to the pediatrician.

We enjoyed having Daddy home for five whole days. Theo, you are so lucky to have such an amazing Daddy who loves you so much. You two spent a lot of time snuggling this week.

You had lots of visitors this week: Oma, Grandpa Steve, Uncle Robert, Taylor, neighbors Marco and Maaike, Auntie Elise and Grandpa Rick. Grandpa Rick got really sick, so we had a fun game of trying to keep germs from the baby. It was so sad because he couldn't hold you. But, thankfully you didn't get sick.

You lost your umbilical cord and had your first bath at home. You are definitely going to be a water baby because you absolutely loved it. Well, until it was time to wash your hair - you didn't love that as much.

You enjoyed lots and lots of snuggles. Theo, you are the absolute light of our lives and we are so glad you are finally here.

Love, Mamma
